Meet the Team

Dr. Victoria Martin

Chief Veterinarian

Dr. Martin grew up on a farm in rural Pennsylvania and has fostered a love of all animals ever since. Dr. Martin moved south for undergrad at Tulane University and decided to stay for veterinary school at Louisiana State University. She graduated in 2013 and actually started out as an equine veterinarian for 2 years after graduation, including an internship at the University of Illinois.

She moved to Houston in 2016 and her career to a new path as a shelter veterinarian as the Chief Veterinarian at Harris County Animal Shelter. After realizing that there were so many animals in need in the Houston area, Dr. Martin decided to start her own practice to focus on providing veterinary services for rescues. She enjoys soft tissue surgery and continues to expand her surgical knowledge and skills every year. She is also a certified veterinary acupuncturist!

Dr. Martin lives with her husband Roy and their two beagle mixes, Molly and Murphy and cat, Maebe. In her spare time, Dr. Martin enjoys traveling the world, baking delicious treats, and reading.

Jenal W.

Receptionist

Originally from California, Jenal lived all across the US (8 states) but her family settled in Houston and it is where she will always consider home. She graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Sociology.

Her love for animals started before she learned to walk. Jenal never thought she could work in a veterinarian clinic because she wasn’t sure if she could handle the bad that came with the good. She could have never guessed just how rewarding working at the clinic and witnessing firsthand the transformation in the animals (from when they first come in, to their last visit before heading to their forever home) could be. She truly loves coming to work every day and just being a small part of that process.

Melissa Carson

Veterinary Technician

Melissa was born and raised in Houston and has always had a passion for rescuing animals, from dogs and cats to even the occasional squirrel and pigeon. Melissa completed her Bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing at the University of Houston. After working in the corporate world for several years, she was drawn to volunteer with a local dog rescue group where she became the foster coordinator and started managing all the medical for each animal in the program.

Melissa’s passion for rescuing animals and her experience in managing their medical care inspired her to start working in the veterinary industry. Along with her rescue pit bull, Ari, she has fostered over 1,000 puppies in the past few years, specializing in bottle-feeding and tube-feeding orphaned babies. Melissa finds it most rewarding to see the only days-old puppies get healthy and strong enough to grow up and find their adoptive homes.

Outside of work, Melissa enjoys going to dinners with friends, reading, and has run several half marathons.

Charlotte Owens

Veterinary Technician

Charlotte, a veterinary assistant at The Rescue Vet Clinic, was born and raised in Galveston County, Texas. She moved to Houston in 2015 and has called it her home ever since. Charlotte graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science in 2010.

Her love for animals started at a young age when her mother taught her how to prevent her dog from getting heat stroke on a particularly hot day in Austin. Charlotte’s passion for animal welfare and medicine only grew from there. She assisted with wildlife stewardship and Gulf Coast conservation at Armand Bayou as a Girl Scout, which inspired her to learn more about shelter medicine, population control, and public health operations. She gained experience in these areas while working with Pearland Animal Control and later provided preventative care and chronic disease management for pets with Alvin Animal Clinic. Charlotte continued to expand her knowledge in veterinary medicine when she worked in trauma and emergency care at VCA Animal Emergency Southeast.

Charlotte’s favorite thing about working with animals is sending happy, healthy pets to their forever homes to get all the love and attention they deserve. She believes that every animal deserves a loving home and is passionate about helping them find one.

When she’s not working, Charlotte spends time with her partner and their two dogs, She-Ra and Kiwi. She enjoys playing video games, crocheting, reading, gardening, and trying out new hobbies. Charlotte also loves adding shows to her watch queues, even if she doesn’t get to watch them all.
